Online survey with potential study participants

If no clear recommendations for treatment methods are available, a simple online survey can provide guidance for planning a patient-relevant study.

Postprandial hyperglycemia is a common side effect after gastric bypass surgery. Since there is no clear evidence for the optimal treatment of postprandial hyperglycemia, this question should be investigated in a large randomized study.

A simple online survey was used to determine the preferences of affected patients in terms of primary study endpoint and maximum study duration. The survey results were incorporated into the design of the study. Therefore, this is a good example of patient-centered study planning.

Dr. Matthias Hepprich talks about his experiences with planning the online survey.
