After a gastric bypass operation, recurrent hypoglycaemia can occur after every meal as a serious complication. In a study led by DKF Clinical Research Group Leader Prof. Marc Donath (Endocrinology, Diabetology & Metabolism/USB), the mechanism of hypoglycaemia was investigated and the use of the SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozine and the IL-1 receptor antagonist anakinra was successfully tested. The results were recently published in the journal Cell Metabolism.
