The DKF study centre for the safe and efficient conduct of clinical studies – a success story
Since its establishment in 2015, the Outpatient Study Centre (ASZ) of the Department of Clinical Research (DKF) situated on the premises of the University Hospital Basel (USB), has provided a state-of-the-art infrastructure for the conduct of clinical studies – from the outpatient care of participants in clinical studies to the processing of biological samples. The centre’s spatial separation from regular hospital operations allows researchers and study participants to benefit from discreet and time-efficient procedures. At the same time, its immediate proximity to the University Hospital Basel ensures that emergency medical care is available at all times.
On site, the DKF's on-site-management team provides comprehensive instruction to study personnel in all relevant procedures and the use of technical equipment, and, where required, offers support in the operational planning and implementation of study programmes. For a decade, the ASZ has thus been contributing to the safe, effective and professional execution of clinical research at the USB.

Anniversary reception
On October 30, 2025, the DKF hosted a drinks reception at the ASZ to commemorate its tenth anniversary. The event celebrated not only this milestone, but also a decade of successful collaboration with research groups across a wide range of disciplines.

| 353 | Clinical studies & research projects have been conducted at the ASZ over the past 10 years. Many of these projects extended over several months and covered a wide range of medical disciplines. |
| 43 | Research groups have drawn on the infrastructure and facilities of the ASZ, many of them conducting several studies at the centre. More than half of these research groups are affiliated with the DKF. |
| 18'142 | Patient visits have taken place at the ASZ since 2016. On average, 140 visits were made each month, 7% of which involved an overnight stay. On average, 10 study participants were cared for each month. |
| 85'551 | Hours have been spent looking after study participants in the ASZ over the last 10 years. This corresponds to an average use of 720 hours per month and shows the high utilization and relevance of the centre. |
