Funding from the Werner Siemens-Stiftung for "Miracle"
The Werner Siemens Foundation is funding the second phase of the project "Miracle"(Minimally Invasive Robot-Assisted Computer-guided LaserosteotomE), which aims to transform bone surgery for the benefit of the patient. This project is headed by DKF research group leader PD Dr. Dr. Florian M. Thieringer (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/USB/DBE) and Prof. Dr. Philippe Cattin (DBE).
The aim of the study is to teach a modular robot to print personalized bio-implants. This novel intervention will be planned with the help of a virtual reality platform. The resulting designs are to be produced using a 3-D printing process, perhaps one day even directly in the patient's body.
