This article by the Oncoplastic Breast Consortium (OPBC) identifies seven gaps in knowledge about breast cancer treatment and recommends appropriate research strategies to fill these gaps. The OPBC was founded in 2017 by Prof. Walter Weber (Breast Surgery/USB) as an independent non-profit organization with the aim of establishing oncoplastic surgery in clinical practice worldwide. It consists of over 400 members, including renowned surgeons and more than 30 patient representatives. A first randomized study of the OPBC under the direction of Prof. Walter Weber is funded by the SNSF as well as the Krebsliga Schweiz and both Basel.
