Wissenschaftsmonat 2025
A record 210 master students in Medicine took part in this year's "Wissenschaftsmonat" where they got trained on the practical application of scientific tool knowledge by means of a fictitious participation in a scientific congress. At the end of the 3-week interactive sessions best abstract presenters were awarded, sponsored by the science publisher Karger.
The "Wissenschaftsmonat" (WiMo) specifically teaches knowledge and skills for the academic science practices. This includes general skills such as writing and evaluating scientific abstracts or creating and giving a presentation on a research project. Ideally, students actively apply what they learn using their own master's thesis as an example. Participation in a scientific conference is actively practiced using e-learning tools and exercises in small groups.
Part of the elective study year
The WiMo is part of the preparation for the elective year during the master studies at the Faculty of Medicine. It always takes place in the spring semester of the 2nd Master year and lasts 3 weeks. In order to participate in the WiMo, students must have a signed Master thesis contract and have ideally already started their master thesis. The WiMo consists of lectures, tutorials, advisory services, e-learning tools and exercises in small groups.
