Use of patient data & samples in research

Research projects developed directly from the clinical routine

Patient data and samples from routine medical care are increasingly being used for research projects, whether for research into personalized therapy strategies or for the implementation of alternative study designs. When doing so, the applicable legal and ethical framework for data use must be taken into account. At the University Hospital Basel (USB), the process of data retrieval is goverend by general regulations.

With the targeted support of research projects based on routine data and the initiatives described here, we try to create optimal conditions for the broadest possible use of routine data for research purposes.
